Performance in use

The T480s remains one of the most widely recommended used business laptops, and this is a well-specified example with built-in LTE. It is a dependable machine for office work: documents, email, spreadsheets, video calls and general browsing.

With 8GB of memory it sits in the mainstream rather than the heavy-multitasking tier. For a typical Office and browser workload it is entirely adequate; if you routinely run virtual machines or very large datasets, look to a 16GB machine instead.

This particular configuration is a Windows-downgrade build, which means it carries a 7th generation processor rather than the 8th generation fitted to most T480s units. That has one practical consequence, covered in the FAQ below: it ships with Windows 10 Pro.

What we check before it is listed

Every machine that comes through our Melbourne workshop is put through the same intake process before it reaches this page. It is not a visual check — each unit is powered up, tested component by component, and the results recorded against its serial number.

• Hardware scan — processor, memory, storage, display panel, graphics and wireless are all identified and verified against the manufacturer's original factory configuration for that specific serial number, so the specification on this page reflects the machine you receive.
• Storage health — SMART data is read from the drive, including power-on hours and reallocated sectors. Drives showing early warning signs are replaced rather than listed.
• Battery condition — measured against design capacity and recorded as a percentage. Grade A units hold 70% or more of original capacity, Grade B between 50% and 70%.
• Secure data erasure — every drive is wiped to recognised data destruction standards before reimaging. Nothing from the previous owner survives the process.
• Functional testing — keyboard, trackpad, ports, camera, microphone, speakers, wireless and display are each checked by hand.
• Cosmetic grading — the chassis, lid, palm rest and screen are inspected under light and graded honestly, with any notable marks recorded.

Why does it ship with Windows 10 and not Windows 11?

This is a Windows-downgrade configuration fitted with a 7th generation Intel Core i5-7300U. Microsoft does not support Windows 11 on 7th generation processors, so the machine ships with Windows 10 Pro. This is a genuine factory build, verified against Dell and Lenovo factory records.

Does the 4G LTE work?

Yes. A Fibocom L850-GL module with Intel XMM7360 chipset is fitted and was confirmed present during testing. Supply your own nano-SIM and data plan.

Can the memory be upgraded?

The T480s combines soldered memory with a single SODIMM slot. Upgrades are possible but limited by the fitted configuration.

What is included in the box?

The laptop and a compatible power adapter. Original packaging, manuals and accessories are not included unless specifically noted.

How is shipping handled?

Free standard shipping across Australia. Orders placed before 2pm on a business day are typically dispatched the same day from our Melbourne warehouse, with tracking supplied by email.

What testing has it been through?

Every unit is inspected, hardware-tested, data-wiped to recognised standards and reimaged before listing. Battery health, display, ports, keyboard, camera and wireless are all checked as part of intake, and the specification is verified against the manufacturer's factory records for that serial number.

How does the warranty work if something fails?

Contact us directly and our Melbourne team will arrange assessment, repair or replacement. There is no offshore call centre and no third-party administrator between you and the resolution.

Has the previous owner's data been removed?

Yes. Every drive is securely erased to recognised data destruction standards and the operating system freshly reimaged before the machine is listed for sale.
