Dell Precision 3550 — 15.6" Entry Mobile Workstation with Quadro P520
A certified refurbished mobile workstation with the six-core Intel Core i7-10810U vPro, 16GB of memory, a 256GB NVMe SSD, NVIDIA Quadro P520 professional graphics and a 100% sRGB display. Covered by a 12-month Reboot IT warranty.
Key benefits
-
Certified professional graphics in a thin chassis — The Quadro P520 carries the same ISV certification as larger workstation cards, in a machine that behaves like a normal 15" laptop.
-
Six cores at 15W — The i7-10810U is a rare six-core U-series part with vPro, giving twelve threads without the heat and fan noise of an H-series chip.
-
100% sRGB display — Full sRGB coverage rather than the 45% panels usual at this size, which matters for anyone doing design or presentation work.
-
Quiet and cool — The low-wattage processor means this workstation runs far quieter than the 45W machines above it, which suits shared offices.
-
Upgradeable memory and storage — Both the SODIMM memory and the M.2 drive are user-serviceable.
-
Full port set — Ethernet, HDMI and USB-C are all built in, so a desk setup needs no adapters.
Performance in use
The Precision 3550 is the entry point to Dell's mobile workstation line, and it makes a specific trade. Instead of a 45W H-series processor it uses the i7-10810U, a six-core, twelve-thread part at 15W. That costs sustained multi-core throughput against a bigger workstation, and buys quieter operation, less heat and better battery life in a slimmer body.
The Quadro P520 is a 2GB professional card. It is not intended for heavy GPU rendering, and it is not the card for large assemblies or complex scenes. What it does provide is certified drivers for CAD, BIM and design applications, so those programs run supported and stable — which is frequently the actual requirement rather than raw speed.
Read this machine as a design-capable business laptop rather than a heavy workstation: 2D drafting, moderate 3D, Adobe work, engineering documentation and site visits. With 16GB of memory and a 256GB drive it is well matched to that role, and both are upgradeable if the work grows.

What we check before it is listed
Every machine through our Melbourne workshop is powered up and tested component by component, with the results recorded against its serial number.
-
Hardware scan — processor, memory, storage, display panel, graphics and wireless identified and verified per serial number.
-
Discrete graphics — the Quadro P520 is detected and tested.
-
Storage health — SMART data read from the drive; drives showing early warning signs are replaced rather than listed.
-
Battery condition — measured against design capacity and recorded as a percentage.
-
Secure data erasure — every drive wiped to recognised data destruction standards before reimaging.
-
Functional testing — keyboard, trackpad, ports, camera, microphone, speakers, wireless and display each checked by hand.
Frequently asked questions
Is this a real workstation or a business laptop?
It is a certified mobile workstation, but the entry model. It has professional Quadro graphics and ISV certification, in a chassis closer in size and noise to a standard 15" business laptop.
What can the Quadro P520 handle?
2D drafting, moderate 3D modelling and GPU-accelerated viewport work. It is a 2GB card, so large assemblies, point clouds and heavy rendering are beyond it.
Why a 15W processor in a workstation?
The i7-10810U is an unusual six-core low-wattage chip. It trades sustained multi-core speed for much quieter running and better battery life — a deliberate choice in this model.
Can I upgrade the memory and storage?
Yes. The memory is SODIMM rather than soldered, and the M.2 drive is replaceable.
Does it have mobile broadband?
No. This configuration has no WWAN support. Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth are built in.
What is included in the box?
The laptop, a compatible power adapter and a tax invoice. Original packaging, manuals and accessories are not included unless specifically noted.
