The Netgear ProSAFE GS105v5 is a five-port unmanaged Gigabit Ethernet switch in a rugged metal case. It requires no configuration — connect it and it works — making it a dependable way to add wired ports at a desk, in a comms cupboard, or behind an AV rack. Backed by a 12-month Reboot IT warranty.

Performance in Use

The GS105 has been a mainstay of small network installations for years, and the reason is reliability rather than features. It is an unmanaged switch: it forwards frames at full Gigabit line rate and does nothing else. There is no firmware to maintain, no configuration to lose, and no web interface to secure — which for a great many deployments is exactly the correct set of properties.

The metal enclosure separates this from consumer-grade switches at a similar port count. ProSAFE units routinely spend years in comms cupboards, above ceiling tiles, and behind AV racks where heat and physical knocks are normal. That build quality is the reason these units keep appearing on the second-hand market still working perfectly.

One point to be clear on: this is the GS105 unmanaged model, not the GS105PE or GS105E. It does not provide VLANs, QoS, port mirroring, or a management interface, and it does not supply PoE power to connected devices. If your requirement includes any of those, you need a different model in the range.

Does this switch provide PoE?

No. The GS105v5 is an unmanaged switch without PoE. It does not supply power to connected devices such as access points, cameras, or IP phones.

Can I configure VLANs on it?

No. This is the unmanaged GS105 model with no management interface. VLANs, QoS, and port mirroring require the managed GS105E or GS105PE models instead.

Is a power adapter included?

Do I need to configure anything to use it?

All-in-one Solution for Home Office

Fair tech for price

Fair tech for price, good specs for era, serves the purpose. The black keyboard is an interesting rubber like texture clearly by design to pad the screen and avoid the keyboard touching. Screen is great. Still looking for magic formula to enable computer use in the bright bright sunshine. Keyboard taps are loud for someone who likes silent touch. The perfect PC has to exist, like build a bear.
