Microsoft Surface Pro 6 — 12.3" i7 2-in-1 Tablet
A certified refurbished Microsoft Surface Pro 6 in its top configuration: quad-core Intel Core i7-8650U, 16GB of memory and a 512GB SSD, on a 12.3" PixelSense touchscreen running Windows 11 Pro. Backed by a 12-month warranty from Reboot IT.
Key Benefits
-
The configuration people actually wanted. i7, 16GB and 512GB was the top of the Surface Pro 6 range and a significant step over the common i5/8GB/256GB build — and none of it can be upgraded afterwards, because memory and storage are both soldered.
-
A genuinely excellent display. 12.3 inches at 2736 × 1824 works out to 267 pixels per inch, in a 3:2 shape built for documents rather than films. It is still one of the better screens on any Windows portable.
-
Quad-core i7 in 790 grams. Four cores and eight threads, turbo to 4.2GHz, in a fanless-feeling slab that weighs less than most 13-inch laptops.
-
Tablet, laptop or drawing board. The kickstand goes almost flat; add a Type Cover for a keyboard and trackpad, or a Surface Pen for handwriting and sketching.
-
Windows 11 Pro. BitLocker, domain join, Remote Desktop and Group Policy — the edition businesses and schools actually require.
-
Sign in by looking at it. The Windows Hello infrared camera logs you in by face, with no password to type on a touchscreen.
Performance In Use
The Surface Pro 6 is the generation where the line settled down. Microsoft moved to a quad-core processor, doubling the cores of the Pro 5 while keeping the same chassis, screen and accessories. This particular unit is the configuration that mattered most: the i7-8650U with 16GB of memory and 512GB of storage. On a device where nothing can be upgraded later, the specification you buy is the specification you keep — and this is the one that still holds up.
In practice that means comfortable multitasking: a large spreadsheet, a couple of dozen browser tabs, Teams running, a PDF open for reference, and no sense that the machine is straining. The 512GB drive is enough to keep a real working set locally rather than living out of cloud storage. Where it will not compete is sustained heavy load — this is a 15W processor in a thin passive-leaning chassis, so long renders or video exports will throttle. Short bursts are its natural territory, and most professional work is short bursts.
The shape is the other half of the argument. Detached, it is a tablet you can annotate on with a pen; propped on the kickstand with a Type Cover it is a laptop; flat on a desk it is a signing pad or a drawing surface. That suits consultants and salespeople presenting to clients, students taking handwritten notes, clinicians and inspectors filling in forms, and anyone who wants a full Windows machine that disappears into a bag.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does it include the keyboard or pen?
No. The Type Cover keyboard and Surface Pen are sold separately. Both are supported and can be added at any time — Surface Pro 4 through 7 accessories all fit this model.
Can I upgrade the memory or storage later?
No. Both are soldered to the board on this generation, which is precisely why the 16GB / 512GB configuration is the one worth having. A microSDXC card can add removable storage.
Does it have USB-C?
No. The Pro 6 has a full-size USB 3.0 Type-A port and Mini DisplayPort, and charges over Surface Connect. USB-C arrived with the Pro 7.
How is it different from the Surface Pro 5?
The Pro 6 moved to 8th Gen quad-core processors — double the cores of the Pro 5 — which is the main reason it still feels usable today. The chassis, screen and accessories carried over unchanged.
Will it run full desktop software?
Yes. This is Windows 11 Pro, not a locked-down tablet OS, so desktop applications install and run exactly as they would on any Windows PC.
What condition is the battery in?
Grade A units are tested at 70% or better of original capacity, Grade B at 50–70%. Batteries are consumable and carry a 30-day warranty separate from the cover on the machine.
What is included, and how is it shipped?
The tablet, its power adapter and cable, and a tax invoice. This unit qualifies for free standard AU shipping, dispatched from our Melbourne warehouse.
Warranty & Why Reboot IT
This tablet is covered by a 12-month warranty (return-to-base) supplied directly by Reboot IT. If something fails within that period we repair or replace it. You deal with us in Melbourne, not an overseas call centre.
Reboot IT has specialised in refurbished business technology since 2001. Every device is functionally tested, securely data-wiped, cleaned and graded by a technician against a consistent standard — which is why the grade on this listing means the same thing as the grade on every other listing we publish.
A fully-specified Surface Pro 6 sat at the very top of Microsoft's range when it launched. The screen, the build and the quad-core processor have not changed since — only what it takes to own one. That is the entire case for buying this one refurbished, and it keeps a well-made device out of landfill at the same time.
