The D3100 uses DisplayLink technology, which means it works across Windows and macOS with the appropriate driver installed. Setup takes a few minutes — install the DisplayLink driver, plug in the dock, and all three monitors and peripherals appear. No reboots required after initial setup.
For creative professionals, connecting a 4K display via DisplayPort delivers noticeably sharper images for photo editing and video review compared to 1080p. The remaining two HDMI outputs handle reference monitors or secondary work screens.

Do I need to install a driver?
Yes — the D3100 uses DisplayLink technology and requires the free DisplayLink driver available from the DisplayLink website. Installation takes a few minutes and a reboot, after which all monitors and ports work automatically.
Does it work with a MacBook?
Yes — DisplayLink supports macOS. You'll need a USB-A to USB-A cable (or USB-C adapter for newer MacBooks) and the macOS DisplayLink driver. Video output works on Intel-based Macs; Apple Silicon Macs may have limitations with multiple monitors.
Can all three monitors run at 4K?
Only the DisplayPort output supports 4K UHD (3840×2160@30Hz). The two HDMI outputs support up to 1920×1080@60Hz. For a full 4K triple setup, consider a Thunderbolt dock instead.

Just having trouble greeting it linked to the internet otherwise it’s okay.
Fair tech for price, good specs for era, serves the purpose. The black keyboard is an interesting rubber like texture clearly by design to pad the screen and avoid the keyboard touching. Screen is great. Still looking for magic formula to enable computer use in the bright bright sunshine. Keyboard taps are loud for someone who likes silent touch. The perfect PC has to exist, like build a bear.
The laptop was sold with a warning about worn keycaps. In fact they had been obviously vandalised (ex school laptops, perhaps?). The keyboard worked fine, and the rest of the laptop too. I'm using it as a file server, so I don't need the keyboard much. So very pleased, and also pleased with reboot-it's service - as always, excellent, and quick responses to any queries.
