Description
The Cisco C881-K9 is the refreshed model in Cisco's 880 Series Integrated Services Router family, built for small offices, branch sites and teleworkers that need enterprise-grade routing and security in a compact, silent appliance. It pairs a managed four-port 10/100 LAN switch with a dedicated 10/100 Fast Ethernet WAN port, so a small site can run its entire wired network from a single device.
Cisco supplies this model with the Advanced Security feature set permanently licensed. The Cisco IOS zone-based policy firewall, IPsec site-to-site and remote-access VPN with up to 20 tunnels, and hardware-accelerated DES, 3DES and AES-256 encryption are all available out of the box with no licence upgrade to buy. The managed switch supports up to eight 802.1Q VLANs, and the platform adds QoS, VRRP and HSRP high availability, and Cisco's standard access-control features. Cisco sizes this model for around 20 users.
The C881-K9 uses a fanless chassis, so it runs silently and suits a home office, reception area or lab bench. It can sit on a desktop or be wall or rack mounted. All five Ethernet ports are 10/100; this model has no Gigabit ports.
Please note: this model has no wireless. The Cisco 880 Series wireless variants carry a W in the part number, for example C881W-GN-A-K9. A C881-K9 has no WiFi radio and no antenna connectors.
Cisco's support lifecycle for the 880 Series has ended, so this model no longer receives IOS security updates from Cisco. It remains well suited to lab and CCNA study use, internal routing, and as a spare for an existing 880 Series fleet.
NOTE: POWER ADAPTER IS NOT INCLUDED. This router requires a compatible Cisco 880 Series external 12V DC power supply, which is not supplied with this unit.
