Ubiquiti U-POE-af — Gigabit 802.3af PoE Injector

The Ubiquiti U-POE-af is a single-port Gigabit PoE injector supplying 802.3af power at 48 V to access points, IP cameras, and VoIP phones. It adds PoE to any network without replacing a switch, delivering power and data over one Ethernet run up to 100 metres. Backed by a 12-month Reboot IT warranty.

Performance in Use

A PoE injector solves a narrow but very common problem: one device needs power over Ethernet and the switch it connects to does not provide it. Replacing a 24-port switch to power a single access point is disproportionate, and the U-POE-af is the standard answer — it sits inline between the switch and the device and injects 48 V onto the cable.

Being 802.3af compliant rather than passive PoE matters. Passive injectors push voltage onto the cable regardless of what is connected, which can damage a non-PoE device plugged in by mistake. An 802.3af injector negotiates with the powered device before supplying power, so a laptop or ordinary switch connected accidentally is not put at risk.

The 15.4 W budget is the specification to check against your device. It comfortably powers 802.3af access points, most IP cameras, and VoIP desk phones. Devices requiring 802.3at PoE+ — including many Wave 2 and Wi-Fi 6 access points and pan-tilt-zoom cameras — need a PoE+ injector instead, as this unit cannot supply their power draw.

Will this power a PoE+ device?

No. The U-POE-af supplies 802.3af power up to 15.4 W. Devices requiring 802.3at PoE+ — including many Wi-Fi 6 and Wave 2 access points — need a PoE+ injector with a higher power budget.

Does it work with non-Ubiquiti equipment?

Yes. It is a standards-compliant 802.3af injector, so it powers any compliant device regardless of manufacturer.

Is it safe if I plug in a non-PoE device by mistake?

Yes. Active 802.3af injectors negotiate with the connected device before supplying power, so a non-PoE device will simply receive data and no voltage.

Is a power lead included?

All-in-one Solution for Home Office

Fair tech for price

Fair tech for price, good specs for era, serves the purpose. The black keyboard is an interesting rubber like texture clearly by design to pad the screen and avoid the keyboard touching. Screen is great. Still looking for magic formula to enable computer use in the bright bright sunshine. Keyboard taps are loud for someone who likes silent touch. The perfect PC has to exist, like build a bear.
