For anyone who needs disc access on the move — archived records, older software, legal or medical files still supplied on CD — that combination is now very hard to find at any price.

The i5-4210M is a 37W standard-voltage part rather than the 15W U-series chip usual in this class, which means it sustains its clock speed under load instead of throttling back. Paired with the 240GB SSD, everyday work is quick: the machine boots in seconds and applications launch without hesitation.

The one specification to think about is memory. At 4GB the machine is workable for browsing, email, documents and disc access, but 4GB is tight for a modern browser with many tabs open alongside other applications. The R30-A uses standard SODIMM memory and access is straightforward, so going to 8GB is an inexpensive upgrade that materially changes how the machine feels. Worth factoring into the decision.
