The X1 Yoga Gen 2 is the convertible member of Lenovo's premium X1 family, and it is a genuinely different machine from a laptop with a touchscreen bolted on. The hinge rotates a full 360 degrees, the keyboard retracts flush as it folds so the keys are not exposed when it is in tablet mode, and the pen is stored and charged inside the chassis rather than clipped to a lid.

The Core i5-7300U is a dual-core, four-thread processor running at 2.6GHz base and boosting to around 3.5GHz. What we check before it is listed

Every machine that comes through our Melbourne workshop is powered up and tested component by component, with the results recorded against its serial number.

• Hardware scan — processor, memory, storage, display panel, graphics and wireless are identified and verified against the manufacturer's original factory configuration for that serial number.
• Storage health — SMART data is read from the drive. Drives showing early warning signs are replaced rather than listed.
• Battery condition — measured against design capacity and recorded as a percentage.
• Touchscreen and pen — the digitiser is tested across the panel and the pen checked for tracking and charge.
• Secure data erasure — every drive is wiped to recognised data destruction standards before reimaging.
• Functional testing — keyboard, trackpad, hinge, ports, camera, microphone, speakers, wireless and display are each checked by hand.

Does it come with the pen?

The X1 Yoga Gen 2 stores its ThinkPad Pen Pro inside the chassis, where it also charges. Where the pen is present with the unit it is supplied with it; if a pen is missing from a particular machine that is noted on the listing.

What can the 360-degree hinge do?

It folds through laptop, tent, stand and tablet modes. The keyboard retracts flush with the chassis as it folds back, so the keys are protected and do not press against a desk in tablet mode.

Can I add more memory?

No. The X1 Yoga Gen 2 uses soldered LPDDR3 memory, so the 8GB fitted here is the working configuration for the life of the machine.

Will it run Windows 11?

No. The 7th generation Intel processor falls outside Microsoft's official Windows 11 requirements, so this machine ships with Windows 10 Pro.

Is the screen glossy or anti-glare?

Touchscreen panels use a glass surface, so it is more reflective than the matte anti-glare display on a standard ThinkPad. It is an IPS panel with wide viewing angles.

What is included in the box?

The laptop and a compatible power adapter. Original packaging, manuals and accessories are not included unless specifically noted.
