D-Link DES-1228P — 24-Port Fast Ethernet PoE Web Smart Switch

The D-Link DES-1228P is a 24-port Fast Ethernet (10/100) switch with IEEE 802.3af PoE on every data port. Four Gigabit Ethernet uplink ports and two SFP slots provide high-speed backbone connectivity to a core switch. Web smart management enables VLAN, QoS, and IGMP snooping without full CLI complexity. Backed by a 12-month Reboot IT warranty.

The DES-1228P is a practical choice for IP camera and VoIP phone installations where 100Mbps per device is more than adequate. Standard HD IP cameras (1–4MP) require only 2–8 Mbps of bandwidth each — well within 100Mbps capacity — meaning 24 camera connections via this switch comfortably feed a Gigabit uplink to an NVR or core switch without bottlenecks.

VLAN support allows separation of camera traffic from office data, and IGMP snooping prevents multicast video streams from flooding non-camera ports. The 4 Gigabit uplinks mean multiple separate backbone connections are available for redundancy or aggregation — a feature not common at this price point on older PoE switches.

Yes — all 24 Fast Ethernet data ports support 802.3af PoE (up to 15.4W per port). The 4 Gigabit uplink ports and 2 SFP slots do not carry PoE.

Is 802.3at (PoE+, 30W) supported?

No — the DES-1228P supports 802.3af PoE only (up to 15.4W per port). For 802.3at PoE+ devices requiring up to 30W, a PoE+ switch is required.

Is this a Gigabit switch?

The 24 data ports are Fast Ethernet (10/100 Mbps). The 4 dedicated uplink ports and 2 SFP slots are Gigabit. If you need Gigabit PoE to end devices, consider a Gigabit PoE switch.

Fair tech for price

Fair tech for price, good specs for era, serves the purpose. The black keyboard is an interesting rubber like texture clearly by design to pad the screen and avoid the keyboard touching. Screen is great. Still looking for magic formula to enable computer use in the bright bright sunshine. Keyboard taps are loud for someone who likes silent touch. The perfect PC has to exist, like build a bear.

Works excellently as advertised.

The laptop was sold with a warning about worn keycaps. In fact they had been obviously vandalised (ex school laptops, perhaps?). The keyboard worked fine, and the rest of the laptop too. I'm using it as a file server, so I don't need the keyboard much. So very pleased, and also pleased with reboot-it's service - as always, excellent, and quick responses to any queries.
