D-Link DES-1024R — 24-Port 10/100 Unmanaged Rackmount Switch

The D-Link DES-1024R is a 24-port Fast Ethernet (10/100BASE-TX) unmanaged switch in a 1U rackmount chassis. Plug in and every port is active immediately — no IP address, no web interface, no CLI setup. Backed by a 12-month Reboot IT warranty.

Performance in Use

The DES-1024R suits legacy Fast Ethernet workgroups, factory floor device networks, lab environments, and any segment where 10/100 connectivity is adequate and management overhead is unwanted. For printers, older workstations, IP cameras running at 100Mbps, or VoIP phones that don’t need Gigabit, a 24-port 10/100 switch costs less to buy and run than a Gigabit equivalent.

Unlike the DES-1024R+, this model does not include an expansion module slot. If you need an optional uplink module bay for additional connectivity, see the DES-1024R+. For this model, connectivity is limited to the 24 base ports plus a standard uplink if your environment needs one via the built-in auto-MDI/MDI-X crossover support.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this a Gigabit switch?

No — the DES-1024R is a Fast Ethernet switch with 10/100BASE-TX ports only. Maximum speed is 100 Mbps per port. For Gigabit, see the D-Link DGS series or similar Gigabit models.

Does it need any configuration?

No — the switch is completely unmanaged. Plug in the power and Ethernet cables and all 24 ports are active. There is no IP address, web interface, or login required.

What is the difference between the DES-1024R and DES-1024R+?

The DES-1024R+ has an additional expansion module slot for optional uplink modules. The DES-1024R does not have this slot — the 24 base ports are the full configuration.

Does it support PoE?

No — this switch does not support Power over Ethernet. If PoE is required, see the D-Link DES-1228P or HP/Cisco PoE switch alternatives.

Fair tech for price

Fair tech for price, good specs for era, serves the purpose. The black keyboard is an interesting rubber like texture clearly by design to pad the screen and avoid the keyboard touching. Screen is great. Still looking for magic formula to enable computer use in the bright bright sunshine. Keyboard taps are loud for someone who likes silent touch. The perfect PC has to exist, like build a bear.

Works excellently as advertised.

The laptop was sold with a warning about worn keycaps. In fact they had been obviously vandalised (ex school laptops, perhaps?). The keyboard worked fine, and the rest of the laptop too. I'm using it as a file server, so I don't need the keyboard much. So very pleased, and also pleased with reboot-it's service - as always, excellent, and quick responses to any queries.
