The Core i7-4600M is a dual-core, four-thread mobile processor at up to 3.6GHz. It is a 4th-generation part in a 37W package, which means it delivers more sustained performance than the ultra-low-voltage chips of the same era, and it remains capable for browsing, office documents and email.
The 128GB SSD makes a substantial difference to how the machine feels — the E6540 originally shipped with mechanical drives, and replacing that removes the pauses that make an older laptop frustrating. 8GB of memory suits the workloads this machine is appropriate for.
This is a desk-first machine rather than a travel one: it is a full 15.6-inch chassis with an optical drive, and it is heavy by modern standards. It suits a workshop bench, a records desk, a Linux deployment or a single-purpose role where the Full HD screen and number pad earn their place. It ships without an operating system because a 4th-generation processor cannot run a currently-supported version of Windows.

Is the battery replaced?
Batteries are tested, not automatically replaced. Grade A units hold 70% or more of original design capacity and Grade B units 50–70%. Every battery carries a 30-day warranty.
Why is no operating system installed?
This processor generation is not supported for Windows 11, and Windows 10 has now reached end of support, so we supply the machine clean rather than installing an operating system that cannot be kept patched. It is ready for your own Windows licence, a Linux build, or a managed corporate image.
What can I install on it?
Any operating system you hold a licence for — Windows 10 or 11 if your hardware assessment allows it, or a current Linux distribution, which runs well on hardware of this generation and remains fully supported.
Does it have a numeric keypad?
Yes — the 15.6 inch chassis includes a full-size keyboard with a dedicated number pad.
Does the DVD drive write as well as read?
Yes — it is a DVD±RW writer, so it both reads and burns CD and DVD media.
How is data from the previous owner handled?
Every drive is wiped to a documented erasure standard before the machine is listed. Nothing from the prior deployment remains.
What are the delivery options?
