The Core i7-8650U is the top processor Dell offered in the 5490 chassis, and its four cores make a real difference the moment you stop doing one thing at a time — a Teams call running while a large Excel model recalculates, or twenty Chrome tabs open alongside Outlook and a PDF viewer. Turbo Boost 2.0 lifts a single core to 4.2GHz for short bursts, which is exactly the behaviour that makes web pages and application launches feel snappy rather than merely adequate.
The 256GB SSD is where the perceived speed comes from. Cold boot to a usable Windows 11 Pro desktop takes seconds, applications open on the first click, and file searches return immediately. Can I upgrade the memory?
Yes. The 5490 has two SO-DIMM slots and only one is occupied by the fitted 8GB module. You can add a second stick for 16GB, or replace both for up to 32GB of DDR4 2400MHz.
Is the SSD NVMe or SATA?
This unit ships with a 256GB M.2 SATA SSD. It is still dramatically faster than a mechanical hard drive, and the M.2 slot can take a larger drive if you want more capacity down the track.
Does it come with a genuine Windows licence?
Yes. Windows 11 Pro is installed and activated with a genuine licence, ready to use out of the box. No trial software, no activation prompts.
Will it run two external monitors?
Yes. You can drive one display from the HDMI 1.4 port and another over USB-C DisplayPort, or use a compatible dock. Combined with the built-in screen that gives you a three-display setup.
Does it have mobile broadband or a SIM slot?
No mobile broadband card is fitted, so this unit connects via Wi-Fi 5 or the built-in Gigabit Ethernet port.
How is the laptop shipped and what does it cost?
