Dell Latitude 5490 — 14" Business Laptop
A professionally refurbished 14" business-class notebook built around Intel's quad-core Core i7-8650U vPro processor, 8GB DDR4 memory and a 256GB M.2 SSD, with a Full HD anti-glare display and backlit keyboard. Runs Windows 11 Pro and is backed by a 12-month Reboot IT warranty.
Key Benefits
-
Quad-core Intel Core i7 power — the i7-8650U runs four cores and eight threads, boosting from 1.9GHz to 4.2GHz on demand, so heavy spreadsheets, large PDFs and a dozen browser tabs stay responsive.
-
Full HD anti-glare display — a 14" 1920×1080 matte panel gives you far more usable desktop than the 1366×768 screens found on budget machines, without the reflections of a glossy panel.
-
Backlit keyboard with dual-point control — type comfortably in dim meeting rooms or on evening flights, and choose between the precision touchpad or the classic Latitude trackpoint.
-
Fast solid-state storage — a 256GB M.2 SSD delivers quick boots, instant application launches and silent, shock-resistant operation with no moving parts.
-
Room to grow — the second SO-DIMM slot is free, so you can lift memory to 16GB or 32GB later without replacing the machine.
-
Genuine enterprise build — Intel vPro remote manageability, TPM security, a full-size Gigabit Ethernet port and a magnesium-reinforced chassis tested to MIL-STD-810G, not a consumer plastic shell.
Performance In Use
For everyday office work this machine sits comfortably above the mid-range. The Core i7-8650U is the top processor Dell offered in the 5490 chassis, and its four cores make a real difference the moment you stop doing one thing at a time — a Teams call running while a large Excel model recalculates, or twenty Chrome tabs open alongside Outlook and a PDF viewer. Turbo Boost 2.0 lifts a single core to 4.2GHz for short bursts, which is exactly the behaviour that makes web pages and application launches feel snappy rather than merely adequate.
The 256GB SSD is where the perceived speed comes from. Cold boot to a usable Windows 11 Pro desktop takes seconds, applications open on the first click, and file searches return immediately. With 8GB of DDR4 you have enough headroom for a normal business workload — browser, email, Office, a video call — and if your workload is heavier, the empty second memory slot means an upgrade to 16GB is a five-minute job with a single screwdriver.
Graphics are handled by integrated Intel UHD 620, which is the right fit for its purpose: multiple monitors, 4K video playback, video conferencing and general business software all run without complaint. It is not a gaming or 3D rendering machine, and it does not pretend to be. Where it does excel is portability and endurance — roughly 1.6kg with a 68Wh four-cell ExpressCharge battery, so it goes into a bag easily and gets through a working day of documents and email away from a power point.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I upgrade the memory?
Yes. The 5490 has two SO-DIMM slots and only one is occupied by the fitted 8GB module. You can add a second stick for 16GB, or replace both for up to 32GB of DDR4 2400MHz.
Is the SSD NVMe or SATA?
This unit ships with a 256GB M.2 SATA SSD. It is still dramatically faster than a mechanical hard drive, and the M.2 slot can take a larger drive if you want more capacity down the track.
Does it come with a genuine Windows licence?
Yes. Windows 11 Pro is installed and activated with a genuine licence, ready to use out of the box. No trial software, no activation prompts.
Will it run two external monitors?
Yes. You can drive one display from the HDMI 1.4 port and another over USB-C DisplayPort, or use a compatible dock. Combined with the built-in screen that gives you a three-display setup.
Does it have mobile broadband or a SIM slot?
No mobile broadband card is fitted, so this unit connects via Wi-Fi 5 or the built-in Gigabit Ethernet port.
How is the laptop shipped and what does it cost?
Orders are packed securely and dispatched from our Melbourne warehouse. Shipping costs apply based on size and destination — rates are calculated at checkout.
What is included in the box?
The laptop and a compatible 65W power adapter with lead. Original packaging, manuals and accessories are not included unless specifically stated.
