The Latitude 5420 sits in Dell’s mainstream commercial line, which is where most of their engineering effort on serviceability goes. The i5-1145G7 is a Tiger Lake part that holds its turbo clocks longer than the low-power chips found in thinner consumer machines. In practice that means a busy browser session, a large Excel model and a Teams video call run together without the fan cycling constantly.
Sixteen gigabytes of dual-channel DDR4 is the specification that ages best. Dual channel matters more than the raw figure on Iris Xe graphics, which draws on system memory — a single-module 16GB machine gives up meaningful graphics performance against this configuration. Paired with the NVMe SSD, cold boot to desktop is a matter of seconds and applications load without the pause a SATA drive introduces.
The 14" panel on this configuration is a 1366 × 768 HD display. That is a lower resolution than the Full HD panels this chassis is often fitted with, and the price reflects it. For spreadsheet work, line-of-business applications, remote desktop sessions and general office use it is perfectly serviceable; if you spend your day in two documents side by side, choose one of the Full HD configurations in this same family instead.

What screen resolution does this configuration have?
This one is the 14" HD panel at 1366 × 768. The Latitude 5420 chassis is also sold with Full HD panels — if you need 1920 × 1080, choose one of the Full HD listings in this family rather than this one.
Does it come with Windows, and is it genuine?
Yes. It ships with Windows 11 Pro 64-bit, professionally reimaged and activated, ready to join a domain or Azure AD.
Can the memory or storage be upgraded later?
Yes. The Latitude 5420 has two SODIMM slots and an M.2 NVMe bay, both accessible under the base cover.
How long will the battery last?
Battery health is graded with the machine — 70% or better for Grade A, 50–70% for Grade B. Batteries are consumable and carry a 30-day battery warranty. Replacements are available if you need all-day runtime.
Will it work with my existing dock?
It supports Thunderbolt 4 and USB-C docking, so any Dell WD or TB-series dock and most third-party USB-C docks will drive power, display and data down one cable.
