Dell Precision 3470 — 14" Precision-Build Business Laptop
A professionally tested and graded 14-inch laptop from Dell's Precision line, built around the 12th Generation Core i5-1250P — a 12-core, 16-thread vPro-capable processor — with 16GB of dual-channel DDR5 and a 512GB PCIe Gen 4 NVMe SSD, running Windows 11 Home. This unit was configured with Intel integrated graphics, not a discrete workstation GPU. Backed by a 12-month warranty with free standard AU shipping.
Key Benefits
-
Precision build quality in a 14-inch body: Dell's Precision line is engineered for longer service life and easier servicing than the mainstream range — better hinges, better thermals, better internal access. You get that chassis here without the workstation price tag that a discrete GPU adds.
-
12-core Core i5-1250P at 28W: Four performance cores and eight efficient cores, 16 threads, boosting to 4.4GHz on a 28W P-series power budget. That is a meaningfully higher power envelope than the 15W chips in most 14-inch business laptops, so it holds its clocks under sustained load instead of throttling after a minute.
-
16GB DDR5 in sockets, upgradeable to 64GB: Two matched 8GB DDR5-4800 modules running dual channel. Nothing is soldered, so the platform can take up to 64GB later — unusual flexibility in a machine this size.
-
512GB PCIe Gen 4 NVMe storage: A fourth-generation NVMe drive, roughly twice the sequential bandwidth of the Gen 3 drives common in this class. Boots, loads and copies noticeably faster.
-
Thunderbolt 4 and 130W USB-C charging: Thunderbolt 4 handles single-cable docking and external displays, and the machine charges over USB-C from a 130W adapter, so one cable does power and peripherals both.
-
12-month warranty & free AU shipping: Every unit is tested, graded and covered by a 12-month warranty, with free standard shipping anywhere in Australia.
Performance In Use
The Precision 3470 is the entry point to Dell's mobile workstation range, and this particular configuration is the sensible one for general business rather than CAD. The 12th Generation Core i5-1250P runs 12 cores and 16 threads at up to 4.4GHz in a 28W envelope. For office work, large spreadsheets, dozens of browser tabs, video calls and light development, it is comfortably quick and stays quick under load.
Be clear on the graphics. The Precision name usually implies a certified NVIDIA workstation GPU, and many 3470s shipped that way — but this one did not. It was factory-built with Intel Iris Xe integrated graphics only. For documents, browsers, video and multi-monitor office work that makes no practical difference. For certified CAD, GPU rendering or professional 3D applications that expect workstation drivers, it does: choose a unit with a discrete NVIDIA card instead.
What you get in exchange is Precision chassis engineering — better serviceability, sturdier construction and a 130W USB-C power path — at the price of a mainstream business laptop. The memory sits in sockets rather than soldered to the board, so 64GB is reachable later, and the Gen 4 SSD is replaceable. Two omissions to note: this unit has no fingerprint reader and no smart card reader, and its camera is an HD unit without infrared, so Windows Hello face sign-in is not available.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does this Precision have an NVIDIA workstation GPU?
No. Dell offered the Precision 3470 both with and without a discrete NVIDIA card, and this particular unit was factory-built with Intel Iris Xe integrated graphics only. We check each machine's factory configuration individually rather than assume, because the two builds look identical from the outside. If you need certified workstation graphics, this is not the right unit.
Then why buy a Precision without the GPU?
Chassis and platform. The Precision line uses sturdier construction, better thermals and easier internal access than the mainstream business range, and this configuration gives you that plus a 28W 12-core processor and Gen 4 storage, without paying the premium a discrete workstation card carries.
Can I upgrade the memory or storage?
Yes to both. The 16GB is fitted as two 8GB DDR5 SODIMMs in sockets — nothing is soldered — and the platform supports up to 64GB. The M.2 2280 Gen 4 NVMe SSD is also replaceable.
Does it have a fingerprint reader or Windows Hello?
Neither. This unit was built without palmrest security options, so there is no fingerprint reader and no smart card reader, and its HD camera has no infrared sensor, so Windows Hello facial recognition is not available. Sign-in is by password or PIN. There is a physical privacy shutter over the camera.
Which Windows edition does it come with?
Windows 11 Home. This unit was configured with Home rather than Pro from the factory. If you need Pro features such as BitLocker or domain join, a Pro upgrade licence can be applied.
Why is the charger 130W?
The Precision 3470 platform ships with a 130W USB-C adapter to cover the higher-powered configurations in the range. A lower-wattage USB-C PD charger or dock will still power and charge this unit comfortably.
How is the battery, and how long will it last?
This is a 64Wh 4-cell Long Life Cycle battery. Refurbished batteries are tested and graded, and a Good-grade unit is between 50% and 70% of original capacity, so expect meaningfully shorter runtime than a new machine. A 30-day battery warranty is included, and replacement batteries for this model are readily available if you want longer runtime.
How much does shipping cost?
This laptop qualifies for free standard AU shipping, delivered anywhere in Australia at no extra cost.
