Where it earns its place is anywhere a reliable, inexpensive second screen is needed and a large modern widescreen would be wasted.
The 16:10 aspect ratio is the specification worth appreciating. At 1050 pixels tall it shows meaningfully more vertical content than the 1080x1920-wide panels that replaced it, and for document work, long spreadsheets, and code that vertical space is more useful than extra width. Many users who have worked on 16:10 panels specifically seek them out for that reason.
Having both VGA and DVI-D matters for the roles this monitor typically fills.
