This top case assembly is the go-to solution for MacBook Pro 16" (2021, A2485) repairs involving keyboard damage, liquid ingress into the upper chassis, worn or broken trackpad, or cosmetic damage to the palmrest. Because the keyboard, trackpad, and palmrest are integrated into a single bonded assembly on this model, replacing the top case is the standard professional repair path — individual key replacement is not supported by Apple's design.
The Touch ID sensor in this assembly is electronically paired to the original donor MacBook's logic board via the Apple Secure Enclave. After installation into a different A2485, the physical power button works normally, but Touch ID biometric authentication requires re-pairing by Apple. Repair shops with Apple Service Provider access can complete the pairing; otherwise the user uses a password at login. This does not affect keyboard or trackpad usability.
All keys, backlight zones, trackpad click mechanism, haptic engine, and Force Touch pressure sensitivity are verified during inspection. Aluminium surfaces are assessed for dents, deep scratches, or corrosion before grading.

No — this top case is designed exclusively for the MacBook Pro 16" (2021, model A2485). The 14" (A2442) and 2023 models use different assemblies that are not interchangeable.
Will Touch ID work after installation?
The physical Touch ID button works as a power button immediately after installation. However, Touch ID biometric authentication requires re-pairing with the logic board via Apple's diagnostics — available through Apple Authorised Service Providers. Without re-pairing, the machine uses a password at login. This is standard behaviour for any top case swap on Apple Silicon Macs.

Fair tech for price, good specs for era, serves the purpose. The black keyboard is an interesting rubber like texture clearly by design to pad the screen and avoid the keyboard touching. Screen is great. Still looking for magic formula to enable computer use in the bright bright sunshine. Keyboard taps are loud for someone who likes silent touch. The perfect PC has to exist, like build a bear.
The laptop was sold with a warning about worn keycaps. In fact they had been obviously vandalised (ex school laptops, perhaps?). The keyboard worked fine, and the rest of the laptop too. I'm using it as a file server, so I don't need the keyboard much. So very pleased, and also pleased with reboot-it's service - as always, excellent, and quick responses to any queries.
