The WS-C2960S-24PD-L is built for the access layer: the switch every desk, phone and wireless access point on a floor plugs into. All 24 copper ports run at Gigabit speed and deliver PoE+, so a VoIP rollout, a wireless upgrade or a set of IP cameras can be powered from the switch rather than from wall adapters and injectors. The 370W budget covers 12 devices at the full 30W PoE+ class or 24 devices at 15.4W, which suits a typical mix of phones and access points.

Uplinks are where this model stands out in its family. The two SFP+ ports take 10 Gigabit optics or copper DAC cables, so traffic from 24 Gigabit users does not bottleneck on a single 1Gb uplink. The same ports also accept standard Gigabit SFP modules when you are connecting to older equipment.

As a Cisco Catalyst, it is managed through the familiar IOS command line or a web interface, with VLANs, 802.1X, QoS for voice traffic and EtherChannel for combining links. For a small office it is a single, capable switch; in a larger site it slots in alongside other Catalyst access switches and can be stacked with the optional FlexStack module.

Do the SFP+ ports need 10G modules?

They accept 10 Gigabit SFP+ optics or DAC cables, and standard Gigabit SFP modules as well. Optics are not included.

How many PoE devices can it power?

The 370W budget covers 12 devices at the full 30W PoE+ class or all 24 ports at 15.4W. Most IP phones draw well under 15.4W.

Can it route between VLANs?

No. The LAN Base image is a Layer 2 feature set. Use a router or a Layer 3 switch for routing between VLANs.

Can I stack it with other switches?

It supports Cisco FlexStack with the optional FlexStack module, which is sold separately, to stack with other 2960-S switches.
