Performance in use

This is the same 881 branch platform as the standard model, ordered with the security IOS bundle. The WAN port takes the internet handoff, the four-port LAN switch feeds desks or an access point, and the IOS firewall enforces policy between them. The same throughput caveat applies as across the 800 series. The interfaces are 10/100, and IPsec encryption reduces usable throughput below that ceiling. On a fast fibre service the router becomes the limiting factor. For a low-bandwidth branch, a VPN endpoint, a management network or a lab bench it is well matched; for a busy primary internet service it is not.
