Lenovo ThinkPad X270 12.5" Compact Business Laptop
A certified refurbished 12.5" ThinkPad with a Core i7-7600U processor, 8GB of memory, a 256GB SSD and a Full HD display. Covered by a 12-month Reboot IT warranty.
Key benefits
-
Genuinely small — At 12.5 inches this is one of the last properly compact business laptops Lenovo made. It fits on an economy tray table and in bags a 14" machine will not.
-
Full HD, not the base panel — Many X270s shipped with a 1366 x 768 screen. This one has the 1920 x 1080 IPS display, which is a substantial difference in how much fits on screen.
-
Core i7 processor — The i7-7600U runs to 3.9GHz on boost, giving this small chassis more headroom than the i3 and i5 versions of the same model.
-
Upgradeable memory — Unlike most modern ultrabooks the X270 uses a standard SODIMM slot, so the 8GB fitted here can be increased later.
-
Two batteries, hot-swappable — The X270 pairs an internal battery with a removable external one, so a spare can be changed without shutting down.
-
Full-size ports — HDMI, Ethernet and USB-A are all built in, with no dongles needed for a desk setup or a projector.
Performance in use
The X270 is the compact end of the ThinkPad line, and it was built for people who travel with a laptop rather than move it between desks. The Core i7-7600U is a dual-core, four-thread processor running at 2.8GHz base and boosting to 3.9GHz, which suits it well to office work: documents, email, spreadsheets, video calls and a browser with a reasonable number of tabs.
The 256GB NVMe SSD does most of the work in making the machine feel quick day to day, with fast boot times and near-instant application launches. The Full HD IPS panel is the configuration worth having in this model — the base 1366 x 768 screen on cheaper X270s is noticeably more cramped for spreadsheet and document work.
Where it shows its age is sustained heavy multitasking: two cores is two cores, and a very heavy Chrome and Teams load will work it harder than a modern quad-core would. For portable office work, note-taking and travel, it remains a genuinely useful machine in a size almost nobody makes any more.

What we check before it is listed
Every machine that comes through our Melbourne workshop is powered up and tested component by component, with the results recorded against its serial number.
-
Hardware scan — processor, memory, storage, display panel, graphics and wireless are identified and verified against the manufacturer's original factory configuration for that serial number.
-
Storage health — SMART data is read from the drive. Drives showing early warning signs are replaced rather than listed.
-
Battery condition — measured against design capacity and recorded as a percentage.
-
Secure data erasure — every drive is wiped to recognised data destruction standards before reimaging.
-
Functional testing — keyboard, trackpad, ports, camera, microphone, speakers, wireless and display are each checked by hand.
-
Cosmetic grading — the chassis, lid, palm rest and screen are inspected under light and graded honestly.
Frequently asked questions
Is this the Full HD screen or the lower-resolution one?
Full HD. This unit has the 12.5" 1920 x 1080 IPS panel, not the 1366 x 768 display fitted to entry-level X270s.
Can I add more memory?
Yes. The X270 uses a standard DDR4 SODIMM slot rather than soldered memory, so the 8GB fitted here can be upgraded.
How does the dual battery work?
The X270 has an internal battery plus a removable external one. The internal battery keeps the machine alive while the external pack is swapped, so a spare can be changed without shutting down.
Is it a touchscreen?
No. It has a 12.5" FHD anti-glare non-touch display.
Will it run Windows 11?
No. The 7th generation Intel processor falls outside Microsoft's official Windows 11 requirements, so this machine ships with Windows 10 Pro.
What is included in the box?
The laptop and a compatible power adapter. Original packaging, manuals and accessories are not included unless specifically noted.
Has the previous owner's data been removed?
Yes. Every drive is securely erased to recognised data destruction standards and the operating system freshly reimaged before the machine is listed.
