Performance in Use

The Core i5-7500 is a quad-core desktop processor at up to 3.8GHz. For office work it remains perfectly capable: Microsoft 365, browsing, email, accounting software and video calls all run comfortably. It is honest, mid-range hardware doing ordinary work well.

As with its G4 sibling, the 1TB drive is mechanical rather than solid-state. That gives real capacity but means boot and application launch are slower than an SSD machine. Adding an SSD for the operating system is the single most effective upgrade available, and the chassis has bays to retain the 1TB drive for storage.

Because the i5-7500 is a 7th-generation part, it is not supported for Windows 11, and Windows 10 security updates have now ended. That makes this best suited to internally-managed, offline or single-purpose roles — records access, a workshop terminal, a machine driving equipment, or any desk behind a managed network rather than facing the open internet.

The Intel Core i5-7500 is not on Microsoft's supported processor list for Windows 11, so Windows 10 Pro is the correct and stable choice for this hardware. Microsoft security updates for Windows 10 have now ended, so this suits offline, single-purpose or internally-managed roles rather than general internet-facing use.

Why a hard drive rather than an SSD?

This configuration was specified for capacity. It is slower to boot and launch applications than an SSD machine. Adding an SSD for the operating system is inexpensive, and the chassis has room to keep the 1TB drive for storage alongside it.
