HP ProCurve J9008A — 2-Port 10GbE SFP+ Expansion Module

The HP ProCurve J9008A is a 2-port 10 Gigabit Ethernet SFP+ plug-in module for HP ProCurve 2910al series switches. Adds dual 10GbE uplink capacity to existing 2910al-24G (J9145A) and 2910al-48G (J9148A) switches without replacing the chassis. Backed by a 12-month Reboot IT warranty.

Performance in Use

The J9008A provides a direct upgrade path for organisations running HP ProCurve 2910al switches that need 10G uplink connectivity to a core switch or server. Rather than replacing the entire distribution switch, the J9008A fits the rear expansion bay and immediately adds two 10GbE SFP+ ports. This is particularly valuable when aggregating traffic from multiple 1G access switches into a server farm over 10G links.

With 10GBASE-SR SFP+ modules, multimode fibre runs of up to 300m between IDF and MDF are straightforward. 10GBASE-LR modules extend this to 10km over single-mode fibre for inter-building links. SFP+ DAC cables deliver a cost-effective low-latency option for rack-to-rack within the same server room.

Are SFP+ transceivers included?

No — SFP+ transceivers are not included. Source compatible 10GBASE-SR, 10GBASE-LR, or SFP+ DAC cables separately based on your distance and fibre type requirements.

Does the switch need to be powered off for installation?

Yes — the J9008A is a cold-swap module. Power off the switch before inserting the module. It is not hot-swappable.

Fair tech for price

Fair tech for price, good specs for era, serves the purpose. The black keyboard is an interesting rubber like texture clearly by design to pad the screen and avoid the keyboard touching. Screen is great. Still looking for magic formula to enable computer use in the bright bright sunshine. Keyboard taps are loud for someone who likes silent touch. The perfect PC has to exist, like build a bear.

Works excellently as advertised.

The laptop was sold with a warning about worn keycaps. In fact they had been obviously vandalised (ex school laptops, perhaps?). The keyboard worked fine, and the rest of the laptop too. I'm using it as a file server, so I don't need the keyboard much. So very pleased, and also pleased with reboot-it's service - as always, excellent, and quick responses to any queries.
