Performance in Use

The 3750G was a mainstay access-layer switch for a long time, and 48-port PoE variants remain useful anywhere a wiring closet needs to power a floor of IP phones and access points. PoE on every port is the feature that keeps it relevant: one cable per device, no power adapters at the desk or in the ceiling.

StackWise is the other reason these are still deployed. Two or more units join over the 32-Gbps stacking bus and are administered as one logical switch with a single configuration and single management address. When a floor outgrows 48 ports, the fix is to add a unit to the stack rather than redesign.

Layer 3 on the IP Base image means inter-VLAN routing can happen locally rather than being trombone-routed to a firewall or core router. In a branch office or a segmented site, that keeps traffic local and simplifies the design. Note the platform is an older generation, so plan around its age for anything security-critical or bandwidth-hungry.
